And so it is official, Danielle is running for the VP position in the OYL Exec. Now some anonymous posters, who would bother naming themselves, seem to think Danielle is some newbie into the world of politics. Hardly the case, since those of us who know her, have worked with her, and know she’s as dedicated as they come.
So here’s a brief bio of Ms. McGee’s experience.
Danielle graduated in 2007 with her B.A. Honours in Political Science and Law from Carleton University in Ottawa. Originally from a small town in North-western Ontario, her life in politics first began when she started came to Ottawa as a first year university student and began volunteering for an M.P. on Parliament Hill. She continued to work on the hill for a year following her volunteer experience.
When Michael Ignatieff decided to run for M.P. in Etobicoke-Lakeshore she began working as a volunteer doing data entry, phone canvassing & door to door canvassing for his 2006 election campaign. This experience prompted her to accept the invitation from Ignatieff’s organizers to be a youth lead in the Ottawa Region and at Carleton University during his 2006 Leadership bid.
Danielle has been working as a Liberal organizer ever since for both the Liberal Party and for Liberal youth in the Ottawa area. She volunteered on the successful nominations of Yasir Naqvi, M.P.P. and Penny Collenette in Ottawa Centre.
During the 2007 Provincial Election, she was asked to serve as the Candidate’s aide to Yasir Naqvi on what proved to be a very successful campaign. She then went on to work with Penny Collenette, the Federal Liberal candidate, for over a year pre-writ where she spent a great deal of time with Penny helping to build her profile in the community. During the 2008 Federal election campaign she was asked to serve as Penny’s Canvass Chair.
She currently sits as the Executive Vice-President of the Ottawa Centre Federal Young Liberal Association (OCFYLA) & the Vice-President Organization of the Ottawa Centre Federal Liberal Association (OCFLA).
So as you can see, she's no newbie, and I truly hope she gets the VP position she's seeking. She's qualified, dedicated and more than able to handle the workload and the pressure that comes with the job.
GO DANIELLE!
